The Fashionflo Women's 1500 looks like once again it will be one of the highlights of the meet. Last year's race delivered a new Stadium record, 4.00.71 with the first two athletes also securing world championship qualifying standards. This year will hopefully be more of the same with a top-class field of superb metric women milers due on the start line.
The lead entry is Sophie O'Sullivan, an athlete with winning credentials: 2023 European U/23 gold and 2025 NCAA gold. She also holds one of the fastest PB in the field, 4.00.23.
Other top entries include Canada’s Simone Plourde, the 2024 Olympian has a PB of 4.02.91. She will not lack for speed or endurance with a 2.00.94 800 pb and 15.01.21 5000 PB to call upon. A couple of weeks back Plourde she took bronze in the Canadian 5000 Championships.
USA athlete Taryn Rawlings will also be in the shake up on that last 200, with a 4.03.78 PB to call upon, she was the winner of the 2024 Monument Mile Classic in Sterling, Scotland and placed 4th last year.
Other athletes that will catch the eye include some of Ireland's best up-and-coming stars, Eimear Maher, who had a breakthrough run in last year’s race and a few weeks later won European U/23 1500 bronze. Maher has a 4.06.54 PB, Laura Nicholson, 4.07.17, National u/23 3000 SC record holder Ava O'Connor and national 1500 indoor champion Lucy Holmes.
Amina Maatog (NED), PB 4.05.67 was a bronze medallist at the European U/23 5000 Championships in 2023 and this year won her country's 3000 indoor title.
The 2025 World University 5000 gold medallist Julia David-Smith was also a gold medallist with the French U/23 Euro cross country team, but possibly the 1500 distance may be a little short for her.
In what really is a star-studded field there are many others who may figure: Chloe Foerstar (USA), PB 4.05.75, Anne Gine Lovnes (NOR), PB 4.06.30, Cari Hughes (GBR) with a 4.06.17 best. The German 2025 champion and 2024 World U/20 bronze medallist Jolanda Kallabis armed with a 4.04.64 and Mena Scatchard (GBR) who has a 1500 best of 4.08.34, an 800 of 2.00.50. Molly Hudson was the British Indoor 1500 silver medallist this year and has a 4.07.27 PB. Taylor Werner (USA) was the 2023 PanAm 5000 silver medallist, but might find the distance a little short for her liking.
Picking a winner for this one is something that even Paddy Power himself would steer clear of!
