Relaymania ready to rock Morton again!

Young athletes will have the opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Rhasidat Adeleke at Morton Games in the ultra-popular juvenile interclub relay series which will open the meet on July 11. Back in 2016 a tall youngster in the colours of Tallaght AC crossed the line bringing the victorious Tallaght team home in first place in the unique Morton Games 16 x 100 relay, little did we know that Rhasidat would within a relatively short time span become a household name gracing global championships of the highest level.

In recent years the juvenile relay programme, thanks to the generous support of Dublin Athletics, has expanded and now includes 4 additional Dublin interclub relay events:

U/10 (mixed) 4 x 200, U/12 (mixed) 4 x 200 , U/14 (mixed) 4 x 200 and U/16 (mixed) 4 x 200.

Morton Games’ relay programme concludes with the unique 16 x 100 relay. That particular relay is open to clubs from all over Ireland with teams of 2 boys and 2 girls at each of U/10, U/12, U/14 and U/16 age categories. In that relay the athletes run according to age groups going up on each lap. All relays follow the World Athletics running order of male/female/male/female.

Last year’s Morton Games relays were largely dominated by Ratoath AC winning the 16 x 100 and also winning the U/14 and U/16 mixed relays. In the younger ages it was the host club Clonliffe Harriers and MSB that shared the spoils.

Invitations will go to clubs that have supported these relays in the past at the end of May. In the event of those clubs not being in a position to field teams in all events places will be offered to clubs on a waiting list.
