Irish record breaker Niamh Fogarty confirmed

Newly minted Irish women’s discus record holder Niamh Fogarty is confirmed for her second Morton Games discus competition in July. Fogarty last weekend, April 27, broke the 41 year old Irish record of Patricia Walsh throwing a best of 58.40m, bettering Walsh’s record by 80 cm at the Oklahoma Throws Meet, Millican Field, Ramona.

Fogarty will have the opportunity to renew acquaintances with the OK Throws winner Obiageri Amaechi, who threw 62.83, in Morton Stadium on July 11th with the Nigerian also confirmed for this year’s Morton Games. Amaechi won silver at last year’s African championships and was a bronze medallist at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.
