Athletics Leinster are once again the kind sponsors of the men’s 100 at this year’s Morton Games. With the level of interest from athletes the result is the need for two seeded races. All of Ireland’s top sprinters have been confirmed. Fans can look forward to seeing the latest round of Akinola -v- Olatunde.
Israel Olatunde, the national record holder at 10.12 and Bori Akinola, the winner of the 2025 national indoor 60, who has recently lowered his PB to 10.25 will go head to head. With Olatunde, Sean Aigboboh 10.39 and Michael Farrelly 10.40 it means that three quarters of the Irish 4 x 100 relay team that set a new national record at last weekend’s European team Championships will race at Morton Games.
Overseas opposition will come from the defending champion Coby Hilton (USA), PB 10.14 and fellow US Demarius Smith, who is equally at home over 100, 200 and 400, with a 100 PB of 10.14 he will be a man in the mix. Fastest PB holder in the field is Britain’s Ojie Edoburun with a 10.04. He was the European U/23 gold medallist back in 2017 and a member of the British 2022 Commonwealth gold winning 4 x 100 relay team. Denmark’s Kojo Musah also has a 10.14 PB to his credit. Morton Games will welcome back Japan’s Ippei Takeda to compete here once again.
There are then a host of Irish athletes gunning for the opportunity including IUAA 100 champion Craig Duffy, Joseph Ojewumi and Alamin Banko, to name but three.
This one will be a blast!
