Can Baikstyte jump to three in a row?

The HyGo Water women’s high jump competition is looking like it will be a very classy affair indeed at next week’s Morton Games. Urte Baikstyte (LTU) be back in town chasing her 3rd successive Morton high jump. She will face stiff opposition this time out with Yuliia Chumachenko (UKR) on paper the athlete to beat. The Ukrainian won the 2019 World University Games with a best of 1.94 and followed that up a year later by winning the Balkan indoor Championships.

Emily Whelan (AUS) comes back for another crack at the Morton Games title, Whelan has been in fine form this year and earlier in the season has twice jumped 1.91. Another returnee this year is Hungarian Fedra Fekete, PB 1.88.

New names for Morton Games this year, from Guinea Fatoumata Balley, who on May 18 set a new national record of 1.90, Italian Giulia De Marchi, 1.85 PB and Britain’s Hannah Lake, PB 1.84.

There is a very good Irish entry of Sommer Lecky, 9 times national champion between indoor and outdoor and of course 2018 world U/20 silver medallist and Aoife O’Sullivan and Tara O’Connor both of whom have elevated their bests this year to 1.81..

This is the strongest ever field assembled for the high jump at Morton Games and will be one of the highlights of the meet. With the high jumpers starting at 6:50 PM the advice is to get to Morton Stadium as early as you can. Don’t miss this one!
