Becker to lead the Irish 400 charge

The Bon Secours Hospital Dublin sponsored women's 400 brings together an exciting field for next week's Morton Games. The race will feature members of the Irish women's 4 x 400 relay squad headed by two-time Olympian and 7 times national champion, 4 times outdoor and 3 indoor, Sophie Becker.

Becker has been at the forefront of Irish 400 running for a number of years now competing on the Irish 4 x 400 mixed relay team at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and on that never to be forgotten Paris Olympic 4 x 400 women's relay team that finished in an unbelievable 4th place. She won silver at the European Championships 4 x 400 relay in 2024 and silver at the world 4 x 200 relays in 2021, she is the reigning national 400 champion and in the spring won the national indoor 200 title. She has a 51.13 PB.

Rachel McCann was part of the 4 x 400 relay team that finished in 6th place in last year's European indoor Championships and has a 52.89 PB. Jenna Breen was part of both the women's 4 x 400 and mixed 4 x 400 relay teams at this year's world athletics relays in Botswana. She recorded her PB of 53.50 at the BMC meet at the Mary Peters track, Belfast in May. Erin Friel is an up-and-coming member of international relay squad, the 18 year old, completed at world athletics relays in Botswana, this season she was All Ireland schools 400 champion and has a PB of 54.02. 

Fastest 400 athlete in the field is Printassia Johnson (BAH) with a PB of 50.53, she is the 2025 Bahamas 400 champion winning that event in 51.35 and was a world championship semifinalist later that season.

Poppy Malik (GBR) won European U/23 4 x 400 gold last year, she was part of the British 4 x 400 relay team at this year's world indoor Championships and was on the British team that finished 4th at the world athletics relays in Botswana. She has a PB of 51.82.

Ilaria Accame (ITA) has a 51.98 PB, she’ll be no stranger to the Irish relay girls having been part of the Italian relay team that finished 4th at those 2024 European Championships. She has a 51.98 PB.

Continuing the 2024 European 4 x 400 reunion Poland’s Kinga Gacka, 6th in the final that day, is also confirmed. She was a bronze medallist in the 4 x 400 World indoors in 2022 and has a 52.03 best.

The Bon Secours Hospital Hospital 400 will be a truly fascinating race and is another event to look forward to on Friday week.
