Mawdsley  to light up Morton Games

Friday night sees the women’s 400 return to Morton Games sponsored by Bons Secours Hospital Dublin. Women’s 400 m running has been a shining beacon for the sport of athletics in Ireland these past couple of years with the exploits of the 4 x 400 relay teams. Morton Games is truly delighted to confirm the participation of several members of that squad led by Sharlene Mawdsley, who has performed heroics in both the women’s 4 x 400 and the mixed 4 x 400 teams. Who will ever forget that magnificent European 4 x 400 mixed relay gold and 4 x 400 silver last year and then of course that magnificent performance by the women’s team at the Olympic Games to take 4th place. Unfortunately another of the Paris heroines Sophie Becker has a slight injury and with the World Championships on the horizon has made the completely understandable and wise decision not to compete on Friday.

Cliodhna Manning and Lauren Cadden both members of the relay squad will be in the blocks on Friday night for what will be an undoubted highlight of the meet.

The field assembled includes three other Olympians. Lisanne De Witte part of the crack Netherlands 4 x 400 squad and Maryana Shostak (UKR) who competed in Paris on her country’s 4 x 400 mixed relay team. Britain’s Hannah Kelly has medalled at global championships in the relay taking European indoor silver in 2025, World Indoor bronze in 2024 and best of all Olympic silver in Paris. Karoline Pahlitzsch (GER) is another pedigree athlete who has competed for her country in the relay at both World and Olympic Games with the field completed by another Ukrainian visitor Alina Yaroshyna.

Another not to be missed race!
