To date the sub- 10 second on Irish soil has proved to be elusive. On Friday night, with the forecasters predicting excellent weather conditions, that may change. The men's 100 once again very kindly sponsored by Athletics Leinster includes 4 athletes who have broken that barrier.
Erik Cardoso is a Brazilian sprinter who holds the Brazilian national record of 9.93 set in San Paulo 12 months ago when he won his country's national title. He won the South American Championships in 2023 and was a member of the Brazilian 4 x 100 relay team that made the final of the world Championships in Oregon in 2022, where they placed 7th.
Cardoso's teammate on that relay team Felipe Bardi will also run at Morton Games. He has a PB of 9.96, he is the current South American champion over 100 and was the Brazilian national champion over that distance in both 2022 and 2024.
Christian Miller is a name that might be familiar to fans. In July 2023 he clocked a time of 10.06 for 100 which was a U/18 world record. 12 months later he went even faster, 9.93 which was an American U/20 record. Last year he was a semifinalist at the USA track and field championships.
Abdul Hakim Sani Brown (JPN) will also be on the Morton start line. Back in 2015 he set a championship record of 10.28 in the 100 at the World Youth Championships and took 100 and 200 gold into the bargain. He qualified for the Tokyo Olympic Games where he ran a time of 9.99 . At the Paris Olympics he made the 100 semis and was an Olympic Games finalist on the Japanese 4 x 100 relay team that finished 5th. He was also a finalist at the 2022 world Championships. Sani Brown has a personal best of 9.96.
The Irish entry is headed by the 2025 national 100 champion and 2026 national 60 indoor champion and recordholder, Bori Akinola, PB 10.19. Also confirmed is the Irish national 200 recordholder Sean Aighoboh.
2024 Morton 100 winner Coby Hilton (USA) returns, having missed last year's race due to injury, he is a great competitor with a 10.14 pb. Anej Curtin Prapotnik (SLO) is currently hitting top form, in the last couple of weeks he has lowered his PB to 10.09. He was the 2024 Balkan indoor champion, he is a five-time national 60 indoor champion and two-time national 100 outdoor champion.
Other overseas entries include Ian Kerr (BAH), who has a 10.14 pb and is a four-time national champion over 200, from Portugal Andre Prazeres, who has a 10.15 pb and the earlier this year won his national 60 indoor championship having previously won the 100 outdoor back in 2023. The Hungarian national champion over both 100, 3 times, and 60, 3 times, Dominik Illovszky has a 10.25 PB. Adas Dambrauskas (LHU) won his national 100 championships in 2024 and has captured the Lithuanian 60 indoor title in 2024, 2025 and 2026. He has a 100 pb of 10.27.
There is also great Irish entry of sprinting talent including Luca Logue-Fonesca, Emmanuel Akinrolie, Jesse Osas, Michael Farrelly, Runo Ayavoro , Nkemjika Onmumereh , Alamin Bankole and Lucas Fadden.
The heats will take place at 6:55 PM and 7:05 PM with the final, and it is going to be an absolute cracker, taking place at 8:15 PM.
