On July 11th Clonliffe Harrier Sean Cronin will be looking to make it a unique 3rd Morton U/20 mile win in a row and claim a little bit of Morton Games history into the bargain. Once again both the men and women’s U/20 mile races are generously supported by the Jerry Kiernan Foundation. Jerry Kiernan is synonymous with Clonliffe Harriers, the host club of Morton Games, and of course given the late Olympian’s total support throughout his life for young up and coming athletes it is fitting that these races bear his name.
Cronin is the stand out entry in the field having recently ran a 3.46.86 PB at the IFAM meet in Brussels. His Clonliffe club mate Lorcan Benjacar is also in fine form and will be reluctant to play second fiddle to Cronin for a second time. Other athletes who will most likely be in the mix include Finn Diver (Beechmount Harriers) and Jamie Wallace (Mullingear Harriers).
The U/20 women’s mile also enjoys a full entry of 16 athletes and will provide a most exciting race. There is a good contingent of athletes from Willowfield Harriers entered led by Lucy Foster and Emier McKee. Fastest PB in the field stands to Jennifer O’Leary (Nenagh Olympic) with Eimear Cooney (Ace AC) also expected to mount a challenge.
The Jerry Kiernan Foundation U/20 women’s race is slated for 6:30pm with the U/20 men at 6:40pm.
