Men's Javelin field confirmed

The field for the men's Javelin competition at this year's Morton Games has now been confirmed. Taking up the home challenge from the organising club Clonliffe Harriers are 2018 and 2019 National champion Stephen Rice and 2019 bronze medallist at the National's Rory Gunning. Rice was one of the stars of last year's meet throwing an Irish national U/23 record of 75.89m in finishing runner-up.

Last year's champion Lars Timmerman-Jetten (NED) is back to defend his title. The Dutchman who has a 79.59 PB was the Dutch champion in 2018 and silver medallist in 2019. He has a season's best to date of 77.07.

Also returning is Joe Dunderdale (GBR) the 2017 British champion who after a period of injury recently opened his 2019 season with a 71.95 throw. The England athletics champion 2019 Gavin Johnson-Assoon who has a 69.69 PB is also returning along with Tom Reuter (LUX) who recently won his national championships and this season has thrown a new PB of 72.90.

On paper the men to beat are the Japanese throwers: Ayumo Ishiyama who has a 79.44 PB from last year and a season's best to date of 74.69 and Gen Naganuma who was seventh in the World Universities Championships this year and has a season's best of 79.33, only marginally short of his 79.42 PB..

The Morton Stadium record has stood now for all of 22 years: 84.12 by Juha Laukkanen (FIN) and who knows with the roar of a Santry crowd possibly that record might be re-written
