An interesting paring in the 5000 at the Albie Thomas race is the 2019 World University 5000 Champion Jonas Raess (SUI) and the 10,000 University Champion Milton Kekana (RSA). Raess set a new 5000 PB of 13.37.98 at the Belfast International on the 1 st of August. The 2017 Swiss national champion won the World Universities in Napoli on the 13 th of July winning after a tactical battle in a time of 14.03.10. The 10,000 champion in Napoli was Milton Kekana (RSA) who won in a time of 29.29.43. He has a 5000 PB of 13.54.83 going all the way back to 2017 but having only in recent days ran a 62.13 half marathon in Port Elizabeth he is expected to pulverise that 5000 PB at Morton Games.
Also confirmed for the Albie Thomas race are two top Norwegian athletes, Marius Vedvik a 13.29.46 man who is a multi-times Norwegian champion – in 2018 he was the national 10,000 champion, 2017 national indoor 3000 and 1500 champion, 2016 – 5000 and 10,000 champion and 2014 the national 5000 champion. He will face his training partner, the 2019 Norwegian national 3000 indoor champion Per Svela who has a 13.35.09 PB.
