Albie Thomas 5000 to provide fitting finale

In a break from what has become the norm the Morton Mile will not be the finale of this year's Morton Games, rather at 9.00 p.m. the 2019 Morton Games will conclude with the Albie Thomas men's international 5000.

The men's 5000 has provided terrific entertainment for the Santry crowd in recent years and with several athletes chasing world qualifying times the weather conditions tend to be much stiller this late in the evening at Santry and it is hoped that this will maximise the possibility and opportunity for these athletes.

Morton Games is also delighted to have as sponsors not only the Dublin Athletics Board which has been a staunch supporter of this race but also we are delighted to announce that the Albie Thomas family are co-sponsors. The legendary Albie Thomas is of course synonymous with Santry having back in 1958 ran two world records in this stadium: 3 mile world-record in July 1958 and a 2 mile in August 1958.

There is expected to be another world-class field gathered for the Albie Thomas Memorial 5000 and it will provide a fitting finale to the night’s athletics.
