English faces big test

Mark English faces tough competition on Wednesday night. The Morton 800, sponsored by Clonliffe Harriers and the friends of Morton Games, brings to Santry a mouthwatering field of half milers.

English comes to Santry aiming to put a disappointing night in Cork behind him in his quest for the world qualifying time of 1.45.80., he has an opportunity before Morton Games as he races in the Diamond League in Birmingham tomorrow (Sunday) .The Donegal man who took the nationals a few weeks back is certainly capable of pulling a big performance out of the bag. He will need to be at his very best if he is to prevail on the 21st. Wednesday's line-up includes the winner of the 800 at Cork City Sports, 2018 NCAA champion Isaiah Harris (USA) who has a 1.44.42 PB, Erik Sowinski (USA) , world indoor bronze medallist 2016 and two-time IAAF world 4 x 800 relay gold medallist also from the United States Harun Abda, pb 1.45.55 making his 3rd visit to Morton Games.

Henry Wynne (USA) has turned from the 1500 to the 800 this season, he finished third in last year's Morton mile, and is ready to run faster then his 1.47.00 PB. The field also includes Jamal Hairane (QAT) , PB 1.45.67 and a season's best of 1.46.22, Zan Rudolf (SLO), a 1.46.00 PB athlete, Robert Ford (USA) 1.46.43, Aurele Van Der Putte (BEL), pb 1.47.24 and Ireland’s Dean Cronin, pb 1.46.69..
